Evidence

All evidence should clearly show your name and address, and be dated within the last 12 months unless stated otherwise.

We will be unable to progress with your application unless we have all relevant evidence submitted.

Household and fuel eligibility

You must show you are an oil or LPG customer.

  • Invoice/Receipt OR
  • Statement OR
  • Quote (less than 3 months old) from your fuel supplier

If you receive a qualifying low-income benefit (automatic eligibility):

If you are in receipt of a qualifying benefit please provide:

    • Benefit letter OR
    • Bank statement (less than 3 months old) OR
    • Portal screenshot

Qualifying benefits include:

  • Universal Credit (including Scottish Child Payment)
  • Housing Benefit
  • Income Support
  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
  • Income-based Employment and Support Allowance
  • Pension Credit

 

For applicants who are are applying under a discretionary decision, you must be in financial hardship and at risk of self-rationing.

 

Financial hardship

Proof of financial hardship could include:

  • Arrears letters
  • Bank statement (less than 3 months old) showing consistent use of overdraft
  • Debt collection letters
  • Credit card statement demonstrating reliance on credit to purchase daily essentials

You MUST ALSO meet at least one of the following criteria:

 

Health-related need

  • Medical evidence or supporting documentation
    e.g. GP letter, hospital discharge summary, disability benefit award
  • SR1 certificate

Age-related need

  • Proof of age for household members (under 5 or over 75)
    e.g. ID, birth certificate

Rural or location-based need

  • Evidence of rural location or limited access to services
    e.g. proof of address such as a council tax letter

Other vulnerabilities

  • Evidence of financial or personal circumstances, such as:
    • Debt (e.g. arrears letters)
    • Awaiting benefit decision or appeal (e.g. DWP correspondence)
    • Major life event (e.g. redundancy letter)
    • Bereavement (e.g. death certificate or supporting note)
